Kerri Shying has been publishing short stories since the early 1980’s, in small magazines like Billy Blue, Satellite and Users’ News among others. Amid parenting and life she returned to writing with three Roland Robinson awards in the early 2000’s and a series of short stories in the Newcastle Herald. A u-turn into poetry led in 2017 to a NSW Writers’ Centre Emerging Writers Grant. She is the peer leader of the Write-up! group in Newcastle and lives with a chronic and degenerative condition. Her Pocket Book of Poetry will be out this year from Flying Island/Cerberus Press in Chinese and English and she is currently finishing the book “ Walking in the Tall Weeds; Poems and Stories” .
Kerri is a woman of Chinese, Australian and Wiradjuri heritage. who loves her son, her family and her dog.
