Lisa is a contemporary Aboriginal artist living in Newcastle. Lisa’s art career began at a very young age however in recent years she completed Advanced Diploma of Fine arts at Newcastle Art School and received the Carol Duval Memorial award for best painting. Recently her focus has been on the traditional Aboriginal symbol for women sitting, a two-dimensional, aerial view of people sitting cross legged. Her recent body of work titled “Two Women Sitting” is a story of love, family and cultural tradition based entirely on foundations of her life. Visually showcasing the ability to sit still with women of importance around her. Reminiscing about missed time to sit with her nana and now appreciating how important it is to sit with the women in her life. Unearthing the stillness and energy resulting from a simple form.
