This year the Critical Animals festival will be presented as part of the TiNA festival in Newcastle, NSW from Thursday 28 September to Sunday 1 October.
We are now calling for Proposals for our festival in 2017. In our 13th year now, we like to think we know a little about our Critical Animals contributors and audiences. You’re thinkers, dreamers, and change-makers, envisaging and strategizing to shape the world you want to be a part of. The whirlwind that 2017 has been so far has got us thinking about the ecology of criticism and how cultural criticism and practice can intersect to effect real world change.
“Speech and action are part of one and the same complex psychological function, directed toward the solution of the problem at hand.”
– Lev Vygotsky, Mind in Society, 1930
If this sounds like a dialogue that you could have with your creative compatriots then we want to know about it. Think of the ways in which your work reflects your ideals and shapes your experiences – tell us about the micro-actions, transformational processes and communal joy that your practice brings to our world.
Critical Animals is all about bridging the gap between the evolution of thought and its physical or theoretical manifestation. We are very open to various and innovative critical and creative expressions. The This Is Not Art Festival is produced in participation with The National Young Writers Festival, Crack Theatre Festival and the Critical Animals symposium. Unsure which under which festival your idea fits? Get in touch – we’d love to hear from you.
Download the Call for Proposals info pack and start writing! Submit proposals and ideas via our Proposal Form by the 31st of March, 2017.
